Association between Asymptomatic Hyperuricemia and Metabolic Obesity Phenotypes in Middle Aged Adults
Shin Kyung-A
Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the association between the metabolic obesity phenotype and hyperuricemia in middle-aged adults. The subjects were 13,936 middle-aged adults between the ages of 40 and 65 who underwent a health checkup at a general hospital in Gyeonggido. Metabolic obesity phenotypes were classified into metabolically healthy non-obese (MHNO), metabolically unhealthy non-obese (MUNO), metabolically healthy obese (MHO) and metabolically unhealthy obese (MUO). The risk of developing hyperuricemia was 1.347 in the MHO group and 1.416 in the MUO group than in the MHNO group. Also, uric acid level showed the strongest correlation with waist circumference (r 2=0.459, p<0.001). In the case of men, the prevalence of hyperuricemia increased proportionally as the MHNO group progressed to the MUNO, MHO, and MUO groups. Therefore, more attention should be paid to serum uric acid level management in the MHO and MUO groups.
